While North American wireless operators are phasing out 3G service, Carrier Transicold is rolling out a program to help truck fleets upgrade telematics technology on refrigerated trucks and trailers.

The company’s new eSolutions package subscriptions bundle device fees and airtime services into one “competitive and predictable” monthly plan fee. There are three- and five-year contract options.

“Regardless of the 3G telematics equipment currently used in a fleet’s Carrier Transicold refrigerators, fleet managers now have the benefit of upgrading to our eSolutions 4G LTE equipment without major upfront investment,” said David Brondum, Director of Telematics at Carrier Transicold, in a press release. “A bundled subscription ensures reliable device performance with comprehensive warranty support during the term of the contract and offers protection against obsolescence if cellular networks weaken previous technologies in favor of telecommunications of the newer generation.”

The hardware includes the transceiver module, antenna and wiring harness, as well as optional peripheral components such as fuel sensors, temperature sensors and door switches that are required for the specific fleet requirements. Three airtime service plans are available: Monitor; Two-way monitoring and control; and monitoring and improved control by adding functionality for data downloading, remote software updates, and customization to Carrier Transicold IntelliSet control configurations.

Carrier Transicold’s eSolutions platform and web-based interface provide visibility into cold chain resources via a centralized data stream showing the temperatures, location and movement of the trailer. The platform can also enable remote control of refrigeration units along with other functions to optimize the use of refrigeration equipment, improve fleet efficiency and help manage service and maintenance.
