Three inquiries to reply earlier than shopping for digital thermostats – Shaw Native

People throughout history have yearned to control temperature, especially in their homes. The first thermostats debuted in the 1600s decades later, thermostats are technological marvels, able to regulate temperature remotely, comfortably, and economically.

Tom Eppers, co-owner, Dowe & Wagner, a heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) company serving residential and commercial customers in Illinois and Wisconsin, recommends digital thermostats, as they can automatically adjust the home’s temperature with customized settings, which saves energy costs.

He explains that they can accommodate multiple settings throughout the week. A smart thermostat may even save on the wear of the HVAC equipment, as it can be programmed to run at variable temperatures, instead of a constant rate. When your home is unoccupied, the temperature can be automatically adjusted to conserve energy.

When researching a digital thermostat, answer these questions to help make the right decision:

1.Will the thermostat be compatible with my existing HVAC system? Before deciding on a thermostat model, make sure it can work with the voltage of your home’s HVAC.

2.Will it be worth it? The Department of Energy reports that digital thermostats can save as much as 10 percent annually on your energy bill. But only when they’re programmed correctly. A 2015 US Energy study discovered that while 41% of homes have programmable thermostats, only about 30% were actually programmed correctly. Like any high-tech device, digital thermostats need to be learned and used correctly to reap the benefits.

3.Who will install it? While some home owners choose to install their digital thermostats, hiring HVAC professionals make the process easier. They can also recommend the best model for your needs, and help navigate set-up once the installation is complete. They can also guide you through the programming process so your home can reach peak efficiency.
